Academic Qualification

Prof. N. Jeyakumar, currently working as a Professor and Head, Dept. of Bioinformatics, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and has about 28 years of teaching and research experience in the field of Computational Biology/Bioinformatics. Dr. N. Jeyakumar completed his PhD in Computational Biology from University of Ulster, UK (2003-2006) with a visiting Pre-Doctoral fellowship from Northwestern University, Chicago, USA (2004-2005). Nominated for Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology (2014).

Research Experience

Prof. N. Jeyakumar’s research experience is twofold, both in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics:

Computational Biology: Developed novel data mining/text mining algorithms to extract gene/protein/disease names and their relations and pathways from biomedical literature using state-of-the-art methods. This resulted in about 25 high-impact publications and nine in-house developed text mining tools.
Bioinformatics: Developed novel in-silico methods to analyze high-throughput genomics data such as NGS/Microarrays for biomarker discovery related to human diseases and bacterial pathogens. Contributions also include in-silico structural biology solutions for protein structure prediction and drug discovery.
